Hi! I’m Munkao, and this is my research and preview art blog for A THOUSAND THOUSAND ISLANDS. 

 

What is A Thousand Thousand Islands? A THOUSAND THOUSAND ISLANDS or ATTI is a fantasy world inspired by Southeast Asia created by writer,&nbsp;<a href="https://zedecksiew.tumblr.com/">Zedeck Siew</a> and Munkao.(me, the illustrator) <a> athousandthousandislands.com </a> The goal isn’t to imagine a bog-standard medieval fantasy world, superficially re-skinned with kerises and brown people. We tried to dig deeper, looking into regional folklore and history – trying to discover what a fantasy world truly rooted in the myths and lived experience of Indochina, Suvarnabhumi and the Nusantara look like. <img src="https://athousandthousandislands.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/all-4-masks.jpg"> What is this Patreon and how is it different from the zines? ATTI zines are finished output; a series of zines inspired by Southeast Asia, for use with fantasy adventure tabletop RPGs Building that world required research, conceptualizing and lots of exploratory drawings. And because we didn't have&nbsp;output to sell for years, I started his Patreon-blog was for me to share those process as well as to get a bit of income.&nbsp; The contents on this Patreon-blog has changed considerably. Who are you? I am Munkao. I am an illustrator, contemporary visual artist, and game designer based in Malaysia. Under Centaur Games, I created POLITIKO, a cardgame about Malaysian party-politics. I have been working on ATTI since late 2015, and our first zine,&nbsp;<a href="https://athousandthousandislands.com/product/mr-kr-gr/">Mr-Kr-Gr</a> came out in 2017.&nbsp; Why should I support you? I work on ATTI full time now, and while I get a bit of income from selling our zines, it is barely minimum wage. Support for this Patreon will really help me not die from hunger. (I'm actually overweight) 

 

What do you share? I currently post Southeast Asia related trivia/research/history posts and preview art/art notes from the zines.&nbsp; + Research posts are public and posted once a month. + Preview art posts are Patreon exclusive and posted once a month.

I used to post research and trivia for this tier, but made the posts all public so everyone could read them.  So this tier is more of a tip jar. Tips I really appreciate.(and need) I share research/trivia posts once a month.

A Tip!

This is the only actual tier with constant updates. I'll be posting art! Previews of stuff that might(or not) be in zines that we do. I also share the reference, the thoughts and whatever notes I have for the art. I post preview art once a month.
